LIFE/DEATH/LIFE
silver mirror ripples above
dark shape at the corner of my world
from beneath the waves
a haunting tune wheedles its way
into the depths
the tide moves us
back and forth, back and forth
the hook grabs on
to some notch in my ribcage
chest forward, head back
you pull me to the surface
my bones clatter together
nothing between them
your eyes widen
you try to cut the string
when you can’t, you take me home
the tide moves us
back and forth, back and forth
eyes close as your head hits the pillow
my bones clatter together
nothing between them
I move forward
I drink your breath like the ocean
when you wake, I will be whole
the tide moves us
back and forth, back and forth
in the morning light we find
our skin salty and soft to the touch
there is so much of you in me
and me in you, no longer do my
bones clatter together
nothing between them
silver mirrors in our eyes
reflecting the dark and the light
you breathe, I breathe
we return to the waves once again
everything between us
